| Carl Sandburg College Adds to "Wall of Honor" |
Two retirees of Carl Sandburg College received Distinguished Service Awards and were inducted into the CSC Wall of Honor Friday afternoon. Jeanette Calvert and Carol Gronewold, both of Carthage, were recognized for their significant contribution to the development and growth of CSC.
Criteria for induction to the Wall of Honor include leadership within the college community, excellence in performing the tasks required by the position held at the College, service in and/or for organizations outside the college community, humility, and sincere effort in self-growth.
Jeanette (Jetty) Calvert was a practical nursing instructor at the Carthage Branch Campus from 1994-2009. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1969 and was employed by Memorial Hospital in July of 1969. Jetty is a member of the Ethics Committee at Memorial Hospital and is Vice President of HUGS -- a cancer support group for Hancock County. She is also a member of the National League of Nursing and a member of Sigma Theta Tau, a nursing honor society. Since her retirement from CSC, she is working two days a week in a physician's office and enjoys the chance to work side-by-side with two of her former students.
Carol Gronewold was the director of the Branch Campus in Carthage from 1992-2004. She also served as an adjunct faculty member for CSC from 1991-1992 and 1986-1987. Carol received her B.S. degree in elementary education in 1974 from Quincy College and an M.S. degree in elementary education in 1987 from WIU. She taught elementary and middle school students for 16 years before coming to CSC. Since her retirement from CSC, she is employed by West Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging to offer services to senior citizens in Hancock County. Carol serves on the Memorial Hospital and Hancock County Nursing Home Boards, the Hancock County Transportation Committee and the Carl Sandburg College Foundation Branch Campus Community Advisory Committee.
