Mild Weather Doesn't Help Farmers
The mild weather over most of Illinois Thanksgiving week did not do much to help the farmers, as much of the ground is still saturated. The latest crop report from the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service shows 56 percent of the state's soil reported as excess.

Mark Schleusener, deputy director of USDA NASS' Illinois field office, says rainfall last week averaged about two-thirds of an inch. That's about a quarter-inch below normal.

As for the crops themselves, corn is 72 percent harvested. Soybeans are 96 percent harvested. A year ago at this time, the corn was 98 percent finished; the five-year average is 99. The soybean harvest is typically complete by now.

Schleusener says the remainder of the crop reports this year will not be mailed to farmers; they are still available ONLINE.
