New Superintendent Official for Knoxville School District -- FULL INTERVIEW AVAILABLE HERE
It's official. The Knoxville School District will have a new superintendent after the end of the current school year.

The District-202 Board Wednesday night formally approved the contract for Stephen Wilder to become the new superintendent starting July first, at a salary eclipsing $106,000 a year. Wilder replaces Doctor Larry Carlton, whose contract the board chose not to renew, but has accepted a job in the school district in Henry.

Wilder tells WGIL he's already thinking about what he needs to do when he takes over.

"My first goal is curriculum and student achievement and where the district is at this point, both across the district, as well as in each building," Wilder said. "That will be a huge focus as I start here. As far as I am concerned, educating students is what schools do first and foremost."

Wilder is a native of the Bloomington-Normal area, where he most recently has been assistant at Normal University High School, and just received his Superintendent's certificate. He says this was the main job he zeroed in on, in part, because his wife Michelle is a Knoxville High School graduate, and he wanted to be close to family.

Wilder will be working on a three-year contract.
