Christmas Seal Stamps Available
Christmas Seal stamps are available everywhere, but you might have to pass on obtaining a special cancellation mark promoting the American Lung Association. That's because only a few post offices are offering the cancellation. Call your post office if you're interested in the cancellation.

The Christmas Seals campaign, the association's biggest fundraiser, brought someone in from the political side of health issues to serve as chairman this year. State Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) says he has been working on life-saving laws since he was first elected to the legislature in 1979. Cullerton championed the ban on smoking in public places, including casinos, restaurants and bars.

Association board member Bill Kempiners, a former state lawmaker, says the stamp campaign began in 1907 and worked to eradicate tuberculosis. He says while you might not hear about TB much anymore, other health problems remain, and new ones have crept up. Kempiners says one of the biggest challenges now is access to health care, saying low-income and minority folks are hard-hit by diseases and conditions that would be treatable if those folks had access to health care.
