Blizzard Conditions Continue in Plains States; Snow Blankets Galesburg Area
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Residents in the nation's heartland are digging out after a blustery storm even as meteorologists warn that blizzard conditions could continue across the northern Plains.

The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

The storm already has dumped significant snow across the region, including a record 14 inches in Oklahoma City and 11 inches in Duluth, Minn., earlier this week. Locally, rain Christmas morning switched over to snow during the day, and that continues continued late Saturday morning. The City of Galesburg and the City of Knoxville have both issued SNOW EMERGENCIES.

Flooding is also a problem as the National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for the Spoon River at London Mills and several counties - including Tazewell, Woodford and McLean in central Illinois - and for areas along the Des Plaines River in Cook County.

Slippery roads have been blamed for at least 21 deaths this week in the U-S as the storm lumbered across the country from the Southwest.
