Gas Prices Down in Illinois, But Higher Compared to Year Ago
The price of gasoline in Illinois is reported to be down slightly on a month to month basis, but officials say you can expect that sort of thing this time of year.

December's monthly Fuel Gage Survey from the AAA Chicago Motor Club says the average price for a gallon of unleaded is $2.67 -- down six cents from November's figure.

AAA spokesperson Beth Mosher says it may seem like gas is high, but really, it's not bad.

"It's a nice price to have, no matter what time of the year," Mosher said. "Under three dollars is always good for the consumer."

Mosher says economic conditions are causing the downturn in prices on a monthly basis. "Oil is down a little bit, and that's because the dollar is strengthening globally," Mosher said.

Mosher says as low as prices are, however, they're still a little more than a dollar higher than the average this time last year, which sat at $1.66.

In the Galesburg area, gas prices are largely below average, sitting close to $2.50 a gallon.
