Illinois Governor Candidates Mostly Accept Evolution
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The candidates for Illinois governor say they see little reason for conflict between faith and science when it comes to evolution.

Politicians from both parties say they accept the scientific theory of evolution but also believe God guided the process.

The Associated Press recently asked the candidates about evolution, a concept that has become a foundation of modern science but is rejected by some politicians and political groups.

Republican Kirk Dillard's answer was typical. He said science supports evolution but he also has "seen the hand of God at work in my travels."

And Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn said that as a Catholic, he sees no conflict between accepting scientific principles but also having faith in God.
