Quinn Signs Tougher Gun Law
CHICAGO (AP) -- A new Illinois law cracks down on gang members with guns.

The law will send gang members to prison for three to 10 years for having a gun.

The law is in honor of Chicago Police Officer Alex Valadez, who was shot and killed in June.

Officials contend Valadez's shooter was a gang member on probation for unlawful use of a weapon. The new law would have meant prison time for him.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed the law Thursday at an event with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez and Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis.
