Chamber Wants to Look Into Teen Center in 2010
A task force that's a part of the Galesburg-Area Chamber of Commerce is going to look into doing something Chamber officials say might be crucial to the youth of the community.

Chamber president Bob Maus says their Education Task Force -- one of several the Chamber has looking at various issues -- will look into what options are available for the formation of a teen center in town after the new year starts.

Maus tells WGIL the idea was first brought to the chamber by a local businessperson, and one that the task force will continue to explore, even if it's the sort of thing that would take a true community-wide effort to get off the ground.

"We're going to work with a number of people and try and bring something like that together," Maus said. "We've got some interesting ideas we're working on now, and we're going to try and expand on them. Something like that is always more complex than it appears on the surface, but we think that's something that important."

Maus says the Chamber's Education Task Force will also keep its annual Teacher of the Year recognition program in place.

He says the task force will also try and help the Adult Literacy Coalition at Carl Sandburg College recruit more volunteers in the new year -- something he says the group always needs.
