Temps Indicate Economic Upswing
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- Employers might not be hiring full-time workers in droves yet, but the temp labor industry is already looking up.

Temporary employment is seen by many as a leading indicator of labor demand, and this post-recession recovery is no different.

Temp help services has added 44,000 jobs in the U.S. since July, including 34,000 in October.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the sector that includes temp employment added 1,300 jobs statewide in October after more than a year of losses.

Local agencies across the state are feeling the effects of the upswing.

Scott Arnold, branch manager for Express Employment Professionals in Bloomington, said the agency has had more job placements in November than any other month this year.
