FIRST ON WGIL: Orpheum Confirms First "Red Carpet Series" Show for 2010
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 12/30/09 The president of Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre has said the last month or so she was close to confirming all of the shows in the revived "Red Carpet Series" starting in 2010, and now she says she can officially reveal one of them.

Kate Francis says the first of five shows in 2010 in the "Red Carpet Series" will be in April, and will be a show featuring magic and illusion.

Francis tells WGIL's "Galesburg Live" the way she sees it, "Spencer's Theatre of Illusion" will be a first for the theatre.

"For the first time in the 'Red Carpet Series' history, we are bringing a first-class, internationally-recognized pair of magicians and illusionists to the theatre," Francis said. "They're a young, hip, great couple. They won the 'Merlin' award, which is an international magic award, recognized not only in the United States, but all over the world, in terms of their talent, and they are just spectacular."

Francis says the group will perform Sunday, April 11th at 2pm.

She says the remaining four shows are still not finalized, but should soon be.

After five shows in 2009, published reports called the "Red Carpet Series" canceled -- something Francis said wasn't true. She says the series was in truth put on hiatus while she worked out the theatre's budget.
