Knox County Board Appoints New Member
The newest member of the Knox County Board says she already has thoughts about one of the more pressing issues the board is dealing with these days.

The Board Wednesday night unanimously approved the Knox County Democratic Central Committee's recommendation of Pamela Davidson to replace Jan Occhi on the board from District Three.

Occhi resigned effective in December because of her move out of the county.

Davidson tells W-G-I-L she's already thought long and hard about something the board will need to tackle head on in the new year...what to do with the Knox County Courthouse.

"I think they should never, never, never tear it down," Davidson said. "I think they should keep the offices or anything downtown because Galesburg needs the downtown area."

Davidson, who is employed at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, says she's especially concerned about continuing reports of asbestos and lead in the current courthouse and how safe the building is for both the employees and suspected criminals making court appearances.

Davidson, in addition to filling Occhi's seat on the County Board, will also replace her on the Carver Center Board, and the County Board's Finance Committee.

Occhi also served on the board of the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association; that seat will go to District One Democrat Lyle Johnson.
