Man Stabbed As He Chased Suspected Home Invader
A Galesburg man had to be treated and released from the hospital after he discovered another man trying to break in to his home.

Galesburg Police reports indicate officers being called to a home in the 800 block of West North Street just before 7:30 Wednesday night. Police say the only person in the home at the time, 45-year old Jeffrey Gardner, heard footsteps, and later discovered a white male coming up the steps from the basement, and eventually left the home.

Police say Gardner gave chase to the male, until the two stopped in the back parking lot of the nearby Galesburg Wellness Center on North Henderson Street, where Gardner told officers he noticed the male carrying both a knife and a claw hammer, and threatened to cut him.

Officers say Gardner was cut in the shoulder, and treated at OSF Saint Mary Medical Center with what was described as a very deep wound.

Gardner described the male as being in his late 40's or early 50's, wearing a green sweatshirt and sweatpants, a blue stocking cap, glasses, and a black leather coat.

The male was also believed to be 5'9" or 5'10", possibly 150 pounds, and possibly had a slight beard.

The suspect remains at large, and anyone with information should call Galesburg Police or Galesburg-Area CrimeStoppers.
