Chicago, Peoria Nurses Paid More
CHICAGO (AP) -- If you're a nurse, it pays to work in the Chicago or Peoria areas. Or at least it pays more than elsewhere.

U.S. labor figures show the average hourly wage for a registered nurse in the Chicago area is $32.36. The national average is $31.31.

Licensed practical and vocational nurses get an average of $21.53 around Chicago and $20.49 in the Peoria area. Those are the highest wages compared to nine other metropolitan areas in Illinois.

The national average for practical and vocational nurses is $19.28.

An official at the Economic Development Council for Central Illinois, Vickie Clark, says the higher wages gives Peoria a competitive advantage in attracting top-notch nurses for the regional health care industry.
