Monmouth "Living Windows" Friday Night
An event that has come to symbolize the start of the holiday season -- and, perhaps, the holiday shopping season, in the Warren County seat takes places Friday evening.

The Monmouth-Area Chamber of Commerce's Living Windows and Holiday Walk event is Friday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 in the city's downtown area. Co-organizer Trevor Davies says businesses will use their storefront windows to display either holiday-themed silhouettes or live holiday scenes.

Davies tells WGIL there's a very simple reason for Living Windows every year.

"I think it gives people a chance to get out and walk around our downtown," Davies said. "I think, sometimes, we get so busy in our routines, that sometimes you forget all the wonderful little shops that can be in the downtown area. Especially being around the holidays, you might get some gift ideas for family and friends."

Davies says what's more, the business community is always willing to take part and be creative, through things like the window displays, or even playing host to any of a number of choirs, musical acts, and singers that also will be found Friday evening.

He says photos with Santa Claus will also be available, along with carriage rides, and a Christmas around the world display as well. That display will be at the old National Guard armory, and is being put together by Monmouth College's International Club.
