Quinn: States Need to Work Together Against Asian Carp
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn said states need to work together to protect the Great Lakes from the invasive Asian carp.

Michigan's governor and five environmental groups have threatened to sue the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to force it to temporarily shut three locks near Chicago over fears that the fish will get into Great Lakes.

Part of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal was poisoned this week to kill the giant carp.

Officials discovered one carp during the operation and that's the closest one has been found to Lake Michigan.

Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Director Douglas Scott said the state and the corps of engineers are trying to take the necessary steps to keep the carp out of Lake Michigan.
