New Business Requests Help from City
Another potential new addition to South Seminary Street in downtown Galesburg could move forward if the Galesburg City Council does its part.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will consider giving a $30,000 revolving loan to Kim Lakis and Erin Woodward, who are looking to open up the new women's boutique "Denim and Pearls" at 108 South Seminary Street.

Documents provided to the City Council indicate that site of the former Heck's Family Tree and other businesses before that will have both name-brand and locally-produced women's apparel and accessories.

Lakis and Woodward have already become the newest recipients of the city's series of $10,000 Business Innovation Grant Award winners, and the city says the loan will be in addition to that, along with $10,000 of equity, and a $50,000 bank loan among other things that will finance the opening of the store.

There's over $700,000 in the city's various revolving loan accounts currently available.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will also vote on the property tax levy and the Fiscal Year 2010 budget, plus they'll hold a work session on a proposed Unified Development Ordinance, combining zoning and several other ordinances into one document.

The City Council meetings start at 6:30pm Monday with the work session, followed by the regular meeting at 7:30.
