City Council to Talk Unified Development Ordinance
A document that has been almost a decade in the making is finally ready, and the Galesburg City Council will get their first look at it Monday night.

Aldermen Monday night will consider on first reading the city's new Unified Development Ordinance. But prior to that, they'll hold a work session on the matter.

The City's Plan Commission has worked on the ordinance with the aide of Plainfield-based Teska Associates for nine years now, which essentially re-writes and combines the city's zoning, land development, sign regulations, and drainage ordinances into one document -- one, they say, will help potential developers in the future by having all the information they need in one place.

Some property zones among other things will be combined as part of the new ordinance, and energy sustainability is also expected to be a part of the new document.

The City Council will also take a final vote on the city's budget and property tax levies.

The overall levy will only slightly increase from last year, and the $23 million budget is balanced but include a number of cuts and spending freezes talked about by the council for months now.

The Council's work session on the Unified Development Ordinance starts at 6:30. The regular council meeting is an hour after that.
