Liquor License Changes and Budget on Council Agenda
Liquor license costs are already going up in the City of Galesburg, but the means by which establishments pay for them could soon get easier.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will consider on first reading a proposal to amend city codes so that would change the payment schedule of liquor licenses from two to four.

Some aldermen wondered aloud after increasing license fees which hadn't been touched in two decades or more, if such an increase would be too much of a burden for business owners to essentially have to pay all at once.

In a related matter, the city council is also considering on first reading amending the number of beer and wine-only liquor licenses issued from one two three.

The City says Walgreens has contacted the city, wanting such liquor licenses for each of their Galesburg stores.

Currently, neither Walgreens sells liquor.

Aldermen will also take final action Monday night on the long-discussed city budget and property tax levy ordinances.

Aldermen will meet in a work session at 6:30 on the city's proposed Unified Development Ordinance, followed by the regular meeting at 7:30.
