Illinois to Get More Federal Money for Veterans Issues
Illinois will soon see additional federal dollars for help with veterans' issues.

Tammy Duckworth, assistant secretary of Veterans Affairs, says President Obama has pledged $3 billion nationwide to help end homelessness among veterans. It's still unclear exactly how much of that money Illinois will receive.

Duckworth says the department is working hard at combating homelessness among veterans. She says approximately 25 percent of the homeless population are veterans. She says the Veterans Administration wants to end homelessness among veterans in five years.

Duckworth, the former director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, spoke at the ribbon cutting of a multi-unit building in Chicago that will offer living space and support services for homeless Veterans.
