WIU Students Produce "Western Illinois Magazine"
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -- A new magazine about the western region of the state is set to hit the stands this week.

Journalism students at Western Illinois University in Macomb are publishing "Western Illinois Magazine." The free publication is available at newspaper racks where Western Courier, the student newspaper, is available.

The idea is to showcase interesting people, places and things in western Illinois. The first issue includes a look at old-fashioned soda fountains and a story on the five most popular majors at WIU.

Lauren Finkler is the editor of the publication. She says it's not just a student publication, it's one that focuses on great stories found anywhere in western Illinois.
