Peeling Paint Fix to Cost $137,000 in Capitol
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The state of Illinois will need to pay more than $137,000 to fix peeling paint inside the Capitol dome in Springfield.

Secretary of State Jesse White's office is in charge of Capitol maintenance. A spokesman for White says officials hope the project will be completed by early January.

Lawmakers report to Springfield on Jan. 3.

The peeling paint was spotted earlier this year on the interior dome above the Capitol's third floor. White spokesman Henry Haupt says the peeling sections are in hard to reach areas. He says scaffolding will be put up so painters can do the work.

The state has had problem with the dome's paint peeling before. The State Journal-Register reports that state officials believe high heat and humidity caused the paint to peel.
