Farewell to The Zephyr
FIRST REPORTED 12:00pm 12/9/10 A Galesburg weekly newspaper has not been published for over a month now, but it will be one last time, as its publisher continues his battle with cancer.

One last edition of "The Zephyr" is expected to be distributed to local retailers by Friday morning, and sports editor John Ring is taking the helm.

Ring says publisher Norm Winick is at home continuing a battle with cancer, and tells WGIL Norm's current health status will be a major focus in the Zephyr's last hurrah.

"In our final issue he talks about what happens, the treatments he's had, decisions he has made, and that's going to answer really everybody's questions on that. He was very open and honest, which he always is."

Ring says Winick was always fair to him and his sports coverage, and any of the other writers who wanted to cover particular stories or angles of stories.

The edition of the Zephyr that will be distributed will be free. Ring says that's the way Winick wanted it. There also will be no advertising.
