Survey Results Help Direct Health Department
The Knox County Board of Health saw results last night.

Michele Fishburn, Director of Community Health Improvement, present board members with results of the local public health system assessment.

The assessment surveyed community members about services provided in Knox County then specifically how well the Health Department in providing necessary services.

Fishburn says in the public's eyes, they have some work to do.

"Anybody who was there, that's not going to come as a shock, because that came up over and over again: technology, communication, sharing data. Constituency development, community partnerships, government presence at the local level, those are all ones that are a high priority area that we have a lower performance in. It doesn't mean our performance is non-existent or that it's bad, it just something that we may want to improve on."

Fishburn says the results will help the department and board with the strategic planning process in the future.

She adds that it also helps the health department determine where they want to be and if they are addressing community concerns other organizations may be addressing already.
