Santo Remembered at Funeral
(IRN) -- Ron Santo was remembered Friday at his funeral at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.

Santo played third base for the Chicago Cubs for 15 years, was radio announcer for 20, and was beloved by Cubs fans. At the funeral today, radio partner Pat Hughes said it's a sad occasion, but folks mustn’t stay sad for long.

"Ron Santo was not about melancholy," Hughes said. "Ronny was about having fun and laughing, living and loving. And the two things he loved more than anything in his life were his family and the Chicago Cubs."

Other eulogists were Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, and Cubs Chairman Thomas S. Ricketts. Msgr. Don Mayall presided.

The eulogists remembered Santo for his playing and announcing, for his sunny disposition despite the loss of both his legs to complications of diabetes, and for the work he did raising money to fight juvenile diabetes. He died of cancer last week in Arizona at age 70.
