Man Killed After Being Hit by a Train
A Galesburg man is dead after he was hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train early Wednesday morning.

Galesburg Police say the accident happened around 2:20 Wednesday morning, along the tracks near Elm and North Streets. They say railroad employees reported seeing a man standing near the tracks, and thought the train, headed westbound, struck him.

They say the train engineer sounded his horn several times but never moved.

The man, 22 year old Wesley Tingley, was pronounced dead at the scene, after being found about 16 cars back from the engine.

Officers interviewed several people who had been with Tingley prior to the accident, and say he had been drinking alcohol during the evening and overnight hours.

Police say their investigation into the accident continues.
