Famous Springfield Home to be Temporarily Closed
(IRN) -- If you want to visit the well-known Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Springfield, you better visit soon. The Dana Thomas House will be closed for the first half of next year for construction and repair work.

A $2.5 million project is being funding by Illinois Jobs Now! That's the building and construction program approved by state lawmakers. That money will pay for numerous improvements, including:

* Installation of a new wheelchair lift
* Modifications to the protective window glazing
* Installation of a new coach house door
* Patching and staining of decorative concrete
* Repairing of masonry, copper gutters, and interior finishes
* Insulating the attic
* Making significant improvements to the climate control system
* Upgrading the fire alarms and security system.

Site manager Chet Rhodes says the home will be closed on Jan. 1 so that staff can move furniture and artifacts, then the actual project will begin in mid-February, and should take until early summer.
