Tourism at Lincoln Sites Drops Post-Bicentennial
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Officials at Abraham Lincoln-related sites in Illinois say there's been a drop in tourism since the bicentennial celebration that culminated in 2009.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports hotel stays have also dropped.

Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director Tim Farley says Springfield hotel stays dipped nearly 6 percent in the 2010 tourism season when compared with 2009.

He and others blame the economy and a drop in the number of tour buses.

Celebrations for Lincoln's 200th birthday were held across Illinois for much of 2009. The bicentennial was Feb. 12, 2009.

Still, several tourism and historic site managers, including at the Old State Capitol complex, say attendance numbers are still ahead of 2008 and they're getting ready to promote more events next year.
