Will IL Gambling Expansion Bill Survive House?
(IRN)-A massive gambling expansion plan is now headed to the Illinois House, now that it has narrowly passed the Senate. With a 31-20 vote, the Senate approved the plan, which calls for five new casinos in Chicago, the south suburbs, Park City (near Waukegan), Rockford and Danville, an immediate increase in casino positions to 1,600, and an increase to 2,000 in 2013.

No votes largely came from Republicans and from Democrats who already have casinos in their districts. Their concerns include a suspicion that visitor numbers would drop at existing casinos, that the horse racing industry isn't getting as much help as it needs to prop up a dwindling pastime, and whether Gaming Board approval is necessary for any new casino to move.

Several lawmakers say the plan could die in the house because it's such a big bill.
