State Police Tight Lipped About Springfield Mayor's Death
(IRN)-Illinois State Police are using a search warrant and conducting a "thorough" canvas in its investigation into Tuesday’s death of Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin. Davlin, 53, was found dead in his home by police after a 911 call at 8:54 a.m.

City police handed the investigation over to ISP, and agency acting director Jonathon Monken is releasing virtually no new information about the death. Monken says the cause of death will be determined after an autopsy, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

"It's standard procedure for any death investigation to question everybody in the area that might have information," Monken said at a news conference called by ISP. He's not confirming the presumption that Davlin committed suicide, nor information from sources that a gun was found in the home. "We're proceeding forward with a death investigation to make sure that all options are being considered."

Monken did say investigators are only looking into the death, and not into Davlin's legal problems, which included a lien on his home because of $90,000 in federal taxes owed, and a court case looking into how he handled a cousin's estate.
