Mitsubishi Workers in Normal OK Wage Cuts
NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- United Auto Workers members at Mitsubishi Motors North America's plant in Normal have ratified a new contract that includes wage cuts the union said could determine the fate of the facility and its 1,300 jobs.

Union local President Ralph Timan said 77 percent of the voters approved the new deal.

A document obtained by The (Bloomington) Pantagraph newspaper indicate the union warned ahead of this week's vote that without wage cuts Mitsubishi wouldn't add a new car model at the plant and could eventually close the facility.

Both Timan and company spokesman Dan Irvin declined to comment on that report.
The plant is the largest private employer in McLean County.
