Monmouth-Roseville Commits to New Buildings
Something that's been discussed since before the Monmouth and Roseville School Districts consolidated may finally be close to reality.

The District-238 Board this week okayed supporting the building of two additions to the high school campus; one a 2,400 square foot addition to the high school's agriculture classroom, and another, a 2,400 square foot addition for a weight room to replace the one at Sunnylane Field.

Monmouth-Roseville High School Principal Jeff Bryan says in terms of the proposed weight room, there's already some money that's long been set aside for part of that.

"The boosters have put together moneis from the past and have a CD to equip a weight room very well. Something like $50-$60,000 that they have in a CD in the back to equip a facility."

That's money that was raised prior to Monmouth and Roseville consolidating. Bryan says the ag room is simply too small, which the school's FFA alumni believes is a shame given how entrenched the area is in agriculture.

The athletic boosters and alumni both committed to trying to raise $100,000 to build both facilities, using potentially volunteer labor.

While one board member thinks the school district's one percent sales tax increase proceeds should pay for them, the groups say they're committed to not cutting into the district's budget.
