Local Lawmaker Passes Away After Cancer Battle
An area lawmaker who was diagnosed earlier this year with prostate cancer has died.

A statement issued by the office of 94th Distrtict State Representative Rich Myers announced Myers' death Wednesday night at the age of 62. Myers' office says his wife Chris and daughter Alison were by his side.

The Colchester Republican began his first term in the Illinois House in 1995, representing what became the 94th district starting in 2002. Myers had just won a ninth term in the House, defeating retired Community College professor Earl Godt II for the second time in the November election.

Myers' office says he was optimistic about recovering from cancer and "courageously fought the disease to the end."

Funeral arrangements for Myers are pending, and his family is asking for privacy.

The 94th District covers all or parts of McDonough, Warren, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Mason, and Mercer Counties.
