Western Illinois University Awaits State Payments
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -- Western Illinois University is still waiting for its first payment from the state this fiscal year, which started nearly six months ago.

University President Al Goldfarb tells WIUM Radio thats Western is working month-to-month to meet payroll.

Goldfarb says the school is living off tuition for now. He says it can likely last until March or April, depending upon how much tuition money comes through in the spring semester. But he doesn't think any state institution can survive the entire year without financial support.

The state of Illinois allocated $53 million for WIU in its current budget, and $37 million of that should already be in the university officials' hands.
Goldfarb says the university is holding back on purchases, travel and other expenses as much as possible.
