Scammers Using Politician's Name to Collect Funds
MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (AP) -- A state lawmaker from southern Illinois is warning that someone is using his name as part of a telephone scam.

Republican State Representative Mike Bost of Murphysboro says the scheme involves someone soliciting money for Bost's re-election campaign. But Bost says he hasn't authorized anyone to raise funds for him, especially since he was just re-elected last month.

Bost says anyone who receives such a call should jot down whatever details they can, including any telephone number recorded on a caller I.D., and report the matter to his office and local police.

He also reminds any recipient of the calls not to give personal or business information to an unknown person by phone.
