Water Rates Back on City Council Agenda
The City of Galesburg is once again trying to increase water rates after failing to do so two weeks ago.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night is scheduled to take a vote on a proposed increase in water rates after a measure to raise both water and garbage rates died two weeks ago when a motion was not made and seconded.

This time, city officials have revised their plan to deal solely with various aspects of later. The city still wants to increase water rates, for the average user, about 11 percent as was discussed in a summer City Council work session, or, a little more than $7.25.

The city now also wants to increase fire service connection fees by five-dollars per quarter, which varies for those water customers outside city limits.

Officials say after numerous requests, the city only wants to allow those living in a property to establish water service, not landlords.

Aldermen Monday night will also consider increasing fees for those who camp at the Allison Lake Storey Campground, and they'll deal with the remediation of the environmental hazards at the former Paintcraft site, when they convene at 6:30 inside council chambers at City Hall.
