Technology May Be Answer to Stop Texting While Driving
(IRN)-Technology might be the antidote to the hazard of texting while driving.

It's not helpful technology if you're trying to communicate: it would block cell phone use in moving cars.

"I think ultimately if we want to solve the problem, that's where we're going to have to go, because education is gonna take a long time," says Brad Roeber, president of the Triple-A Chicago Motor Club.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is evaluating the technology, which at the moment falls short in a variety of ways: It has no fool proof activation mechanism, nor a way for passengers' phones to remain in service, nor for the driver's phone to be available for use in an emergency.

Roeber says enforcement of the texting while driving ban in Illinois is difficult, because drivers who text hold their phones away from the ability of cops to see them and be sure of what they're doing.
