Water Rates on the Rise in Galesburg
Galesburg residents will see higher water rates next year, and local resident Mike Kroll says he knows why.

"The rate that we're going now is being forced upon us by that five percent cap on large water users, that happen to be municipalities. Because of that cap, we have artificially held down the cost of all other large water users in the city of Galesburg. For example, in this year, we're going from $1.62, for the first 132 units, to $1.95 which is a 33 cent increase. For the larger users it's going from $1.16 to $1.25, a total of nine cent increase."

Kroll suggested to the city council last night to remove municipalities from the rate structure to even things out.

The council approved the higher waters rates, an 11 percent increase, by a 6 to 2 margin last night. All agreed, however, to hold a work session to discuss the rate structure.
