Kirk Votes for Don't Ask, Don't Tell
(IRN)-The president signs the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell into law today. The vote of Illinois' junior senator was one of those that allowed the repeal.

U.S. Senator Mark S. Kirk says his decision to back the repeal was based on the Pentagon's report and after discussions with military brass.

"I thought it was in the best interests of the military to not be whipsawed by various federal court decisions, especially from California, to start and stop the policy."

Kirk denies that he changed his campaign position to retain the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy. He says his position has always been to consider the recommendation of the Pentagon.
