Brothers to be Tried Separately in Beason Killings
LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) -- Prosecutors say they expect to hold separate trials for the two brothers accused of killing five members of a central Illinois family in Beason in 2009.

Thirty-one year old Christopher Harris and 23 year old Jason Harris have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges in the deaths of Ruth and Rick Gee and three of the couple's children. The brothers also are charged with the attempted murder of the Gee's youngest child, who survived the attack on her family.

Defense attorneys and prosecutors met Tuesday with Judge Thomas Harris for a status hearing. The Courier reports that Illinois Assistant Attorney General Michael Atterberry told the judge prosecutors intend to hold separate trials.

The hearing was held to see where the parties stood as far as evidence and DNA analysis of evidence.
