Federal Rural Transit Grant Not Quite Ready for Approval in Knox County
After three years of work the Transportation Partnership Group in Knox County will have to wait a little longer.

Representatives from the group presented a grant application before the Knox County Board last night that would help create a rural transportation for all county residents, but it could not be approved last night.

"We have to do things a certain way. I think we're premature in doing anything here until we have some further communication with the treasurer's office to make sure that we're doing it according, and with the state's attorney's office - well maybe not even you guys - with the auditors to make sure we have it set up correctly. Because every other pass through grant we have has to go through a committee and has to be administered through the treasurer's office and money comes to us and we send it out. So I think voting on this would be premature until we have a system put in place that we're comfortable with."

Finance Committee Chair Wayne Saline because Knox County would be the grantee for the federal funds and therefore would be ultimately responsible.

A meeting with the transportation partnership and county representatives is planned to work out some of the financial logistics.
