City Council Approves Building Renovation
A building that has been vacant in Galesburg for years will soon see some life again.

Jeff Klinck, owner of Galesburg Nissan wants to purchase the former gas station at 2701 East Main Street.

Klinck came before the Galesburg city council last Monday night requesting a redevelopers agreement to expand his business.

"Initially, that's what the operation would entail...it would be simply to recondition my own vehicles that we take in," Klinck said. "I would like to expand, as we are able, and offer some retail services there as well, whether it would be some "quick lube" services or detail and a quick lube, and just see...the business plan continues to develop and unfold."

Because the building is in a tax increment financing district, it allows Klink to qualify for reimbursement of around $128,000 of the $140,000 cost to revamp the building, among other benefits.

The council voted unanimously in favor of the measure and thanked Klink for getting rid of an eyesore.
