Schilling Says Galesburg Will Still Have an Office
If you thought Galesburg would lose its 17th Congressional District Constituent Office when Phil Hare leaves office in a few weeks, think again.

Republican Congressman Elect Bobby Schilling says Galesburg has had such an office since at least Lane Evans' first term 30 years ago, and there's no reason for it to close.

However, Schilling tells WGIL the office may not remain in its current location on the edge of the 4-L Plaza near downtown, but that wouldn't be his fault.

"Right now our budgets are being cut by a pretty substantial amount so what we're going to need to do is really look at things closely to make sure we're doing,... getting the biggest for the buck for the taxpayer dollar."

Schilling says it likely won't be until after the first of the year before he knows how things shake out in that regard.

As for the overall picture, Schilling tells WGIL district offices may look different again, after the state's redistricting process is done.

"We're allowed to use federal buildings and county buildings to set up offices, and once we know where the map is at for the next election for the next congress, we're going to reach out into those areas to get some representation, kind of getting things on board right away so people know that we're there for them right from the get go."

Schilling defeated Hare in November's election, and will take office in January.
