State Gets Serious about Paternity
(IRN)-Genetic testing is more accurate than ever, and state law has to catch up. A new law effective Jan. 1 updates paternity testing procedures to allow for the 99.9 percent accuracy modern DNA technology can provide in determining who is the father of a particular child.

The House sponsor, State Rep. LaShawn Ford, says making the correct person accountable is the least the state can do – for itself, and for the children involved: "They're the real losers because it sets up … psychological problems as well as financial problems for the mothers and the state," he says, if the wrong father or no father is identified
