Mayor Says Jobs Close to Added Thanks to Economic Development Grant
FIRST REPORTED 12:00pm 12/29/10 What was described as an economic development "game changer" when it was announced three-months ago is close to reality.

That's according to Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza, who says the grant of $1.2 million over three years will still help local economic development and business growth efforts, and create jobs.

But Garza tells WGIL's Galesburg Live three city jobs that he says must be created with the grant are close to filled.

"We have over 60 plus applicants for three economic development positions at the city. What that's going to do for us is help us re-establish a new and improved entrepreneurship center, it also will bring a person that's going to be dedicated to industry recruitment in terms of clusters and then the third position is going to be the incubator manager for the sustainable business center."

The center just got its first tenant when tankless water heater manufacturer Intellihot Green Technology signed on the dotted line to locate there.

Garza says that recent announcement means that Galesburg can be highly competitive when it comes to landing jobs, especially green ones.

He did not say when the three city positions will be filled.
