Bomb Threats Among Top Local Stories
It was a story that didn't really affect Galesburg, unless you consider that Galesburg residents likely could have been affected. A series of what turned out to be phony bomb threats at Western Illinois University is one of our top local stories of 2010.

A Chicago teenager who was a student at the university's Macomb campus, 18 year old Cameron McKoy, was arrested in November after allegedly making a bomb threat to the Tanner residence hall October 25th.

But, at the time of McKoy's arrest, F-B-I Special Agent Stu McArthur told reporters McKoy likely was responsible for more than that.

"From at least October 25th continuing through at least November 11th 2010, Western Illinois University received a series of phone calls in which threats were made concerning the damaging or destruction of one or more WIU by explosion or bomb."

McArthur says McKoy allegedly made the first threat via cell phone, later using an internet-based automated phone service to make other threats.

A grand jury later indicted McKoy on a host of charges connected to the bomb threats, but an arraignment date has yet to be scheduled.
McKoy is in the custody of U.S. Marshalls.
