New Laws Strengthen Orders of Protection
(IRN)-Two new laws are designed to help domestic violence victims and people who are harassed. The first law allows a judge to put an order of protection in place, notifying the local sheriff, so that victims have some paper work in effect before the next business day when the courts are open.

The second allows an order against what's called "stalking no contact." State Representative Fred Crespo says he proposed this measure after a girl in his district was harassed by another young person who molested her, then stood on public property in front of her home and screamed epithets at her. Crespo says police were unable to do anything because orders of protection require two people to have some kind of relationship, like boyfriend and girlfriend, which wasn't the case for the girl.
