1 Dead, 1 Injured After Car is Struck by Train
CHICAGO (AP) -- Authorities say one of two people critically injured after an Amtrak train struck a car on Chicago's South Side is dead.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Joe Roccasalva says the car was struck Thursday before 7 p.m. at a crossing. Witnesses told police that the car went around lowered crossing gates.

Both people in the car were taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Authorities say 20 year old Patrice Robinson was later pronounced dead at the hospital. She was a passenger in the car.

Updates on the driver's condition weren't immediately available Friday.
Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds says the train had left Chicago's Union Station a short time before the accident and was bound for New York with 245 passengers. The train resumed service later Thursday.
