Yates City Man Wants to Change Guilty Plea
A Knox County resident who pleaded guilty three months ago to the alleged sexual assault of a young child is apparently changing his mind.

21 year old Jason Oppe of Yates City was to be sentenced yesterday in Knox County Court on a single felony count of Criminal Sexual Assault, however, it was learned that Public Defender Karl Johnson has filed a motion to withdraw that guilty plea.

Oppe was arrested in April by Knox County Sheriffs deputies, and a sample taken from the victim tested positive.

Johnson also submitted what appeared to be a handwritten letter to Judge Paul Mangieri during the hearing yesterday in support of the motion to withdraw; however, it's not clear who wrote it.

The defense also asked for a motion for transcripts of a previous hearing.
Mangieri will hear the motion to withdraw the guilty plea February 10th.
