Complaint: Danville Forcing Low-Income People Out
DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Four Danville residents have filed a civil rights complaint against the eastern Illinois city accusing it of discriminating against black residents through a plan to cut low-income housing.

They argue in the complaint filed with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that Mayor Scott Eisenhauer's plan to cut low-income housing is aimed at driving out people who aren't longtime residents. They argue that is code language for black people who've moved to Danville in recent years.

Washington attorney Michael Allen represents the complainants. He said the mayor has been open about his desire to cut low-income housing.

Eisenhauer did not immediately return calls for comment. But he has said in a number of newspaper interviews that the city can't afford social services for all its residents occupying low-income housing.
